From capital to cure: How Japan's V-ECO program is accelerating biotech pipelines
Five years ago, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) launched the Venture Capital Ecosystem Enhancement Program — known as the V-ECO Program — with a bold goal: to accelerate private investment into pre-IPO biotech companies working on drug development.
Here's how it works. AMED, Japan's funding agency, certifies select venture capital firms. When a certified VC invests in an eligible pre-IPO biotech with a qualifying pipeline, that biotech receives a matching grant from AMED worth twice the VC's investment. The program is already gaining traction globally. Several international VC firms have received certification and are actively exploring opportunities to leverage V-ECO funding for their portfolio companies.
In this session, you will hear directly from the METI officials who run the V-ECO Program, alongside leaders from certified international VC firms. Whether you are a biotech founder or an investor looking to maximize your returns in Japan, this is a session you won't want to miss.
